The Alberta library community plays a critical role in supporting innovation, learning, creativity and creation of knowledge. Our conference theme this year reflects a playful approach as well as a nod to metatags and social networks. Think tag clouds, metadata, RFID tags, social networks, games and gaming – and general playfulness! Libraries and Library Boards are excited about the great success of Alberta libraries! ALC is a time to celebrate our successes and generate excitement and vision for the future.

Here are some important dates and deadlines for ALC:
- registrations made after April 15 and on-site will be charged $420. Online registrations are not accepted after April 25 and must be made on-site.
- the cancellation deadline for accommodations at Jasper Park Lodge is March 24. Cancellations made after March 24 are subject to a cancellation fee equal to one night’s room package.

Charter Bus to ALC
“Magic Library Bus” to the Conference from Southern Alberta
The most fun way to get to the conference is on the charter bus run by the Shortgrass Library System. Imagine a bus full of library people, with snacks and general conviviality. You don’t need to be worried about unreliable weather or the stress of driving. The bus leaves from Medicine Hat and has pickup points in Calgary, Canmore and Banff and at arranged points along the TransCanada Highway. The $250 or $175 cost includes the return journey as well as park fees and light refreshments. For more information and booking instructions see the Shortgrass website.
ALC 2012 Subsidy
ALTA is pleased to announce the ALC subsidy for library boards who serve communities under 5,000 will be available for the 2012 conference. The deadline to submit your claim will be May 31, 2012.
