Elections and Nomination Information
Nominations are now open for the Positions of Area Representative for
Areas 2, 4, 6, and 8 and for
President for 2010-2012
. Nomination Form is available for download here: (.pdf)Please remember the following when putting in a nomination:
- Membership fees for both the Nominator and Nominated (whether it is a Board Membership or Individual Membership) must have been paid on or before December 31, 2009 for the nomination to be valid.
- We strongly suggest sending all candidates to the Alberta Library Conference in April so that they are able to attend our Annual General Meeting and the Transition meeting afterward.
- Please include a short biography of the nominee and highlight the areas that they feel they will best be able to contribute to ALTA, including the preferred committee that they would like to be a part of.
You do not need to be an Area Representative to be involved with ALTA! We would love to have members volunteer for any of our committees - or for specific projects or jobs. More information on our committees is located under About ALTA on the menu to the left. Email us at admin@librarytrustees.ab.ca if you are interested!
Election Process
As ALTA's elections are
done by mail-in ballots, the following process will be used:
Ballots will be
sent to all Boards in the Area having the election that have paid their membership dues for the year in which the AGM will be held. The ballots are expected to be mailed starting the second week of February. The ballots will be mailed to the
address of the board that the ALTA office has on record (taken from
the membership sheet sent with the dues). Each member of
the library board listed on the Board member sheet will have one
vote. Please note that if a person sits on a local library
board as well as the Systems board they will have one vote only.
If a person sits on the Parkland System Library Board but their local
board is not a member of ALTA, that person will then have a vote by
way of their membership in Parkland System board. Again,
one person, one vote.
Ballots will
continue to be sent out as boards pay their membership dues.
The cutoff for the final date that ballots will be mailed is
March 30th. Boards paying their dues after that
date will not receive ballots. This is necessary to give enough
time for ballots to reach board members and be returned to the
Nominations Committee for counting. The last date for
receiving voting ballots to the Nominations Committee will be April
14th. This will give the Committee time to count the ballots before
leaving for the ALC Conference and the ALTA AGM
