Hello,
I wish to comment on a recent theft from your library. I know of a young teacher who had her very expensive cowboy boots stolen from your library while taking her own time to put up her students art. I feel very helpless in this matter and wish those guilty to be found and charged.
I understand that there is a surveilance camera that could be useful in solving this crime. I do hope that it can be activated and that the police can be involved in solving this crime. It is astonishing that this happened to a young dedicated individual and hope that the boots can be recovered. I think that the policy of removing boots should also be reviewed given the fact that the surveilance camera appears to be of no use.

We need to offer e-books in our libraries but what we are really offering is technical help. Our library staff spends a lot of time helping people learn to use their e-readers.

Thanks for this! Very interesting and useful. Let's keep the politicians on their toes and not let them think that they can overlook library issues and that we won't notice.

Excellent reminder. Facts do tell, but stories sell.

As advocates we really need to drive home the stories and the faces between the budgets and the charts. Those are real books educating real families!

Hi Maureen,

Thank you for generously offering to help the Slave Lake Library rebuild.

Recently, the library announced they had received nearly 27,000 items from people and organizations around Alberta to help with their rebuilding process. As there are so many donations of books and lendable items, the library is asking for cash donations. The suggestion is to hold a book sale in your area, and donate the proceeds. I’ve copied their news release below for you. It’s also available on the Peace Library System Website http://www.peacelibrarysystem.ab.ca/

UPDATE: Slave Lake Library Donations (posted July 22)
Peace Library System (PLS) has been coordinating donations for the Rotary Club of Slave Lake Public Library. We have fielded dozens of phone calls and e-mails from individuals, libraries, publishers and other organizations in Alberta and across the country and have accepted donations of money, library books and other materials.

The response has been astounding, with almost 27,000 items received to date! It will be a lengthy project to sort, catalogue and process this daunting number of items. A book sale is being planned for tattered books and the duplicate copies received. We are now asking people to hold book sales in their own communities and to donate the proceeds to Slave Lake Library. This will help with acquiring furniture, shelving, supplies and other needed items for their temporary and future locations.

To donate funds, follow the link to CanadaHelps.org on the Slave Lake library website. Alternatively, cheques or money-orders can be made payable to the “Slave Lake Regional Library Board” and sent to:

Peace Library System
8301 – 110 Street
Grande Prairie, AB T8W 6T2

The Slave Lake Library and Peace Library System thank all who made and will make a contribution to rebuilding the library.

Thanks again for your help. The way Albertans help each other after a crisis is part of what makes our province great.

I have hundreds of award wining and best sellers in mint condition that I would love to donate to
the new library. Most are hard cover and the bindings are not broken. I have kept a
Book Lovers Diary of all I have read the last 20 years and rated each novel for reference and
enjoyment. Please respond to this e.mail and let me know where I can forward all the books.
It would be my pleaser to extend the enjoyment of hours of reading to you all!
God Bless,
Maureen Prokopy

Fantastic job on the website! I haven't gone through it in detail but wow!
I tweeted about it this morning as did a trustee from Grande Prairie.

Excellent meeting!!

Now for the hard stuff; following up and building strength on the ground.

There was an advocacy piece on the table LAA & ALTA - it needs to be updated as there is no mention of MUNICIPALITIES. I will work with a group if you want it updated.

Good job! Keep looking over your shoulder parade leader.
