Mission Statement
The Alberta Library Trustees Association is the collective voice for Alberta library trustees and, through them, represents the interests of patrons and supporters of public libraries. The Alberta Library Trustees Association promotes effective library service and leadership in communication and advocacy and encourages trustee education and development.
Belief Statement
The Alberta Library Trustees Association believes that library services are essential to the quality of life of Albertans and vital to the educational, economic, social and cultural development of the province.
History
ALTA is a non-profit organization and was incorporated July 26, 1971 under the Societies Act of the province of Alberta. On January 1, 1990 ALTA was granted status as a registered charity under the federal Income Tax Act and as such can issue official income tax receipts.
Areas
The Alberta Library Trustees Association is a provincial body and is organized into 8 "Areas" and 2 Urban Districts. Our "Areas" generally follow the same geographic regions as Provincial Library System Boards.
Area 1 - Peace; Area 2 - Yellowhead; Area 3 - Parkland; Area 4 - Marigold; Area 5 - Chinook Arch; Area 6 - Shortgrass; Area 7 - Metro Edmonton (includes cities of St. Albert, Sherwood Park and Fort Saskatchewan); Area 8 - Northern Lights; Edmonton ; Calgary.
