AGM 2011

The 2011 Annual General Meeting of the Alberta Library Trustees Association will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 29th in the Tonquin Room at the Jasper Park Lodge.

Alberta Library Trustees’ Association’s 40th Annual General Meeting is a celebration of the enduring impact library governors made on creating a provincial library system. Thousands of Alberta Trustees – volunteers – contribute time, skills and leadership to their community libraries and regional library systems.

Please join the 2010 – 2011 ALTA Board of Directors on Friday, April 29th at 3:00 pm in the Tonquin Room at the Jasper Park Lodge Clubhouse for its annual business discussion. To celebrate this milestone, Dr. Diana Davidson, Director of Public Libraries, will address ALTA members on the direction, goals and partnerships of Alberta’s public library system and its reliance on Trustees.

Note that to accommodate a shorter time frame for the business meeting, ALTA members particularly interested in the 2010 Financial Statements and the AGM Budget 2011.are invited to join the Chair and Committee of the Internal Committee (audit and finance committee) at 2 pm in the Athabasca Room in the Clubhouse. Questions and concerns can be addressed at this pre-meeting. Of course, the AGM will follow parliamentary rules in voting on the 2010 Financial Statements and AGM Budget 2011.

Please note that this AGM Notice of Meeting is distributed by:

Email to current 2011 ALTA member Boards through their identified contact on the 2011 AGM membership renewal form with the expectation that it will be forwarded to their Chairs and Trustees;
Email to current 2011 ALTA member Trustees identified by their board or regional library systems on the 2011 AGM membership renewal form;
Email to current 2011 ALTA individual and former Trustee members; and
Email to honorary life Trustees where email is available.

In accordance with best environmental care practices, the AGM information will be only available on the screen in the Tonquin Room at the AGM.

Keynote

Dr. Diana Davidson has been Director of the Public Library Services Branch, Municipal Affairs, since April 2010. She is leading the Public Library Services Branch team through the implementation of the MLA Committee report Framework for the Future: Positioning Alberta Libraries for the 21st Century including implementing a public library technology plan and improving library service to Aboriginal communities.

Prior to being in this position, Diana was a trustee, and chair, of the Edmonton Public Library Board. Books and libraries have always been a central part of Diana’s personal and professional life: she holds a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of York in England, she has worked as a literature instructor at the University of Alberta, and she is a published writer.

She grew up in Beaverlodge, Alberta and now lives in Edmonton.
